What is chronic disease?

A chronic disease is a disease that is long lasting and persistent whereas an acute disease is short term and often goes away. Some examples of chronic disease are:

Symptomatic relief of these diseases can be attained but in most cases they cannot be ‘cured’ (with the exception of Cancer). A surprising number of people have a chronic disease, 1 in 2 people in America are reported as having a chronic disease.
